Disneys NEWSIES closes 2021 OUTDOOR Season at Theatre in the Park (TIP); Seven performances July 30 Aug. 1, Aug. 4-7.Set in 1899 and based on the 1992 motion picture, Disneys musical NEWSIES is inspired by a true story of a New York newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged newsies, Jack Kelly, who rallies the cities newsies to strike against unfair conditions and fight for whats right when the titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the boys expense.Theatre in the Parks production of NEWSIES opens Friday, July 31 through Sunday, Aug. 1, and continues the following Wednesday through Saturday, Aug. 4-7. Curtain time is 8:30 p.m. This is the final outdoor production in TIPs season.The original Broadway production of NEWSIES played for over 1,000 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Original Score (music by Alan Menken) and Best Choreography (Christopher Gattelli). The songs in this show are some of the most well known in modern musical theatre and the choreography is energetic, complicated and exciting utilizing nearly 2 dozen young men. Including the now-classic songs Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, and Santa Fe, the show is packed with nonstop thrills and a timeless message of hope and integrity that are perfect for the whole family.
