The Barn Players proudly present a bold and gender-inclusive production of the Tony Award-winning musical 1776, running August 8 through August 17 at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center. This timely reimagining of the classic musical challenges tradition and highlights the diverse voices behind America’s founding – then and now.

This production of 1776 casts gender-diverse performers in the roles of the nation’s founding fathers, bringing new relevance and urgency to the show’s themes of justice, representation, and resistance. Audiences can expect a powerful retelling of the American Revolution that reflects the multiplicity of voices shaping today’s democracy.

With a witty book by Peter Stone and an unforgettable score by Sherman Edwards, 1776 dramatizes the heated debates and clashing personalities behind the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
