SPRING ENCHANTMENT Concert Caps Off Kansas City Chamber Orchestra’s 39th Season
KCCO Music Director Bruce Sorrell will present a pre-concert talk about the music.
Kansas City Chamber Orchestra (KCCO) welcomes the season with its "Spring Enchantment" concert on Thursday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. at Grace and Holy Cathedral, 415 W. 13th St., Kansas City, Missouri. KCCO Music Director Bruce Sorrell will present a pre-concert talk about the music. Sorrell will deliver a pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m.
"Spring Enchantment" caps off KCCO's 39th season. KCCO is a unique professional orchestra that features 15 to 35 musicians at its concerts, depending on the music being performed. Musicians come from across the region to play with KCCO. "Spring Enchantment" will conclude this season with a packed program.
"One of the exciting things about the upcoming concert is that it features music that has been part of KCCO's nearly 40-year history," Sorrell said. "Forrest Pierce's The Twelve Kisses was written for us and given its world premiere in 2010. Over the years, we've performed a lot of music by British composers, and Elgar's gorgeous Serenade never disappoints. And almost from the beginning, we've been acclaimed for our performances of Mozart, so using his symphonies in our countdown to 40 is almost like a homecoming. "
Pierce's "The Twelve Kisses" re-imagines the "Song of Songs" in both Hebrew and English for soprano and chamber orchestra. Composed in 2009 and dedicated to Bruce Sorrell, this performance will feature Victoria Botero as soloist. This is a rare opportunity to hear this extraordinary piece again, by turns virtuosic, seductive, and romantic.
KCCO will also announce its 40th anniversary season as well as details for its upcoming Vino and Violins Summer Dinner event, Monday, June 1, at Cru in Brookside.

ABOUT KANSAS CITY CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
KCCO is an all-professional orchestra featuring four to six concerts each season as well as several special events. KCCO uses 15 to 35 musicians at its concerts, depending on the music being performed. This orchestra provides local professional musicians with additional performing opportunities. KCCO members play in other musical groups, including the Kansas City Symphony, and serve on the music faculties at the University of Kansas and the Conservatory at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
KCCO is often a collaborative partner with other performing arts organizations, including the International Center for Music, Park University, the Kansas City Chorale, Musica Vocale, Friends of Chamber Music, What If (Paul Mesner) Puppets, and Owen/Cox Dance.
