Theatremaker Apprenticeship - Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble

Theatremaker Apprenticeship

LISTING INFORMATION

Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (BTE) is seeking a cohort of Apprentices for our 2023-2024 season. BTE is a professional, not-for-profit theatre located in Bloomsburg PA. At BTE, all full-time year-round employees are Ensemble Members. The Ensemble has the opportunity to participate in the governance of the company and its artistic direction. The Resident Acting Company comprises the actors, directors, and teachers at BTE.

Apprentices will become an integral part of the Ensemble while receiving in-depth performance training through continuing education—including scene studies, workshops, and opportunities for cross-training in directing, theatre education, production, and stage management skills. Apprentices will be immersed in the running of an Ensemble company, hold significant roles in mainstage productions, and tour regional communities with Theatre in the Classroom. We aim to support apprentices on their path to becoming "Citizen Artists." These Theatremakers possess knowledge and respect for all disciplines of theatremaking, with confidence and competence in their craft, and a practical understanding of running a theatre company that is integrated into the community it serves.

Apprenticeships are 9-month residencies with an option to extend for a second year and the possibility of Resident Acting Company membership. Pay is $300/week with housing provided or $350/week without. BTE observes a 5-day work week with two consecutive days off. For the mainstage season, we are specifically looking to fill roles in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, A Christmas Story by Jean Shepherd, Sanctuary City by Martyna Majok, and Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson- #2B by Kate Hamill.

BTE is dedicated to our diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Artists of all backgrounds are actively encouraged to apply. COVID vaccinations are required for employment. Apprentices are also required to pass appropriate federal and PA background checks.

Please submit a self-tape of two contrasting 60 second monologues and 16 bars of a musical selection. Send self-tape link, resume, and headshot to our Casting Coordinator, Amy Rene Byrne, amyrenebyrne@gmail.com.

Deadline for submissions is February 25th.

Audition slots will be scheduled in person in Philadelphia on March 20th. In-person callbacks will be held in Bloomsburg on May 6th.

If you are unable to attend the Philly audition or Bloomsburg callbacks but are interested in applying, please contact Amy.

Salary: $300-350/week for 36 weeks
