Full-Time, Salaried Exempt Resident Artist Position
Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (BTE), a 48‑year‑old professional rural ensemble theatre committed to artistic excellence, arts education, collaborative artistic direction, and community engagement, seeks a new Resident Artist. This artist will serve as an Actor-Director, Teaching Artist, and administrative liaison. This is a full-time Resident Artist position with a Candidacy period prior to full Ensemble membership. Priority will be given to male-presenting applicants.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Acting/Directing
Act in or direct BTE Mainstage productions and/or TIC tour
Roles available dependent upon experience and audition:
Assistant Director or Director of Cry it Out
Old Man or Narrator in A Christmas Story
Either Cortisol in Neuroinfluencers Theatre in the Classroom Tour or Hal in Proof
Any adult male roles in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Select Directors for each production
Participate in marketing and promotions for productions
Support other aspects of production when not being utilized in casting or directing workflow, including, but not limited to, Design, Choreography, Stage Combat, and Intimacy Coordination
Serve as a mentor, Cast Buddy, and other leadership roles when needed with community kid actors in Mainstage and Summer productions
Encouraged to participate in special projects such as BTE’s podcast, devising new work, and researching/writing TIC
Service
Serve as a liaison to administrative areas of the organization, which may include the Managing Director, Communications, Development, or other departments as organizational needs dictate
Support administrative workflow by assisting with tasks such as project follow‑through, documentation, scheduling, and cross‑departmental coordination
Represent the Resident Artists in conversations that bridge artistic and administrative priorities, ensuring clarity, transparency, and timely information‑sharing
Contribute to committee work, planning processes, and organizational initiatives that require artistic insight paired with administrative collaboration
Provide flexible support during periods of increased activity, helping maintain smooth operations across departments
Resident Artist Responsibilities
Participate in all Resident Artist meetings and required Ensemble meetings, including Season Selection, Strategic Action, Envisioning, DEI, Tactical, and others as assigned
Serve as a rotating RA representative at Board Meetings
Contribute to Educational programming and serve as Teaching Artist both in the classroom and in productions with community youth
Contribute to organizational planning, community engagement, and long-term artistic vision
Support the Artistic Lead in maintaining communication, workflow, and artistic cohesion across the season
Represent BTE at all major BTE events and other community engagement opportunities
Provide guidance on images and branding for upcoming season productions
Assist with grant proposals and reports to provide updated artistic and programmatic information
Uphold BTE’s values of collaboration, transparency, and shared responsibility
QUALIFICATIONS
Acting experience required; BA/BFA in Theatre and/or professional acting experience preferred
Directing experience preferred or a demonstrated interest in developing directing skills
Diverse theatremaking and administrative skill set required or a strong desire to expand capabilities across multiple areas of theatremaking
Experience teaching preferred
Experience working with children and youth in artistic settings preferred
Completed criminal background check
Ability to work on-site at BTE during classes, workshops, rehearsal, runs of the show and in-person meetings
Ability to lift heavy items (50 pounds or more)
Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work and a valid driver’s license
Up-to-date vaccinations according to the State of PA

WORK SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
Start date: July 27, 2026
Full-time, salaried exempt, $33,300 annually
5-day, 40-hour work week, with flexibility during tech and openings
Benefits include paid time off, eye insurance, and access to professional development
A nine‑month Candidacy period is required before attaining full Resident Artist Membership, with the option for an earlier adoption vote
