Full-Time, Salaried Exempt Resident Artist Position

Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (BTE), a 48‑year‑old professional rural ensemble theatre committed to artistic excellence, arts education, collaborative artistic direction, and community engagement, seeks a Resident Artist Company Manager whose artistic discipline is Stage Management and whose service area is Company Management. This is a full-time Resident Artist position with a Candidacy period prior to full Ensemble membership.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Company Manager is a Resident Artist whose artistic discipline is Stage Management and whose primary service area is Company Management. This role is a core member of the Artistic Team and participates fully in Season Planning and organizational decision-making. As lead Stage Manager, they are responsible for the rehearsal and performance process for all mainstage productions and the Theatre in the Classroom (TIC) tour. As Company Manager, they oversee production communication in consultation with the Director, production budgets and contracting, and guest artist support. 


PRIMARY DUTIES
Stage Management 

  • Serve as Lead Stage Manager for mainstage productions TIC tour

  • Call every performance for productions they Stage Manage 

  • Supervise ASMs, run crew, and interns assigned to productions

  • Create and maintain run sheets, prop tracking, official Prompt Book (including all blocking and technical cues), and other SM documentation

  • Collaborate with Directors to create and distribute contact sheets, performance reports, and rehearsal schedules 

  • Maintain rehearsal and performance standards consistent with AEA best practices, with flexibility appropriate to BTE’s scale 

  • Support Guest Directors, Designers, and Actors with clear communication and logistical coordination

Company Management 

  • Manage the annual artistic programming calendar, including performance, rehearsal, and other key dates

  • Creating and distributing Contracts and Paperwork to Guest Designers and Contractors

  • Coordinate securing of licensing agreements with the Associate Managing Director.

  • Collaborate with the Managing Director and Associate Managing Director on production budgets, calendars, and deadlines

  • Serve on Budget Subcommittee

  • Oversee individual production calendars, deadlines, and inter-departmental communication

  • Schedule, chair, and document weekly Production Meetings and distribute notes 

  • Be on-call for Guest Artists during their residency

Resident Artist Responsibilities

  • Participate in all Resident Artist meetings and required Ensemble meetings, including Season Selection, Strategic Action, Envisioning, DEI, Tactical, and others as assigned

  • Serve as a rotating RA representative at Board Meetings

  • Contribute to Educational programming and serve as Teaching Artist both in the classroom and in productions with community youth

  • Contribute to organizational planning, community engagement, and long-term artistic vision

  • Support the Artistic Lead in maintaining communication, workflow, and artistic cohesion across the season

  • Represent BTE at all major BTE events and other community engagement opportunities 

  • Provide guidance on images and branding for upcoming season productions

  • Assist with grant proposals and reports to provide updated artistic and educational programming information

  • Uphold BTE’s values of collaboration, transparency, and shared responsibility

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Stage Management experience required; BA/BFA in Stage Management preferred

  • Strong rehearsal management, performance calling, and documentation skills

  • Experience in Company Management or equivalent professional administrative experience preferred, including contracting, scheduling, and artist support

  • Experience in small or mid‑sized regional theatres with multidisciplinary responsibilities preferred

  • Comfort working in flexible, resource‑aware environments

  • Strong communication and organizational skills required, including clarity in written and verbal communication, timely follow‑through, and effective coordination across departments

  • Ability to mentor, delegate, and maintain a supportive, professional rehearsal and performance environment required, and experience supervising ASMs and crew preferred

  • Experience with budgeting, purchasing, contracts, and administrative coordination preferred

  • Experience working with children and required Pennsylvania clearances 

  • Ability to work collaboratively within an ensemble structure

  • Comfort using a variety of technological platforms, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe PDF tools, and QLab

  • Ability to work on-site at BTE during classes, workshops, rehearsal, runs of the show and in-person meetings

  • Ability to lift heavy items (50 pounds or more)

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Up‑to‑date vaccinations as required by the State of Pennsylvania

WORK SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

  • Start date: July 27, 2026

  • Full-time, salaried exempt, $33,300 annually

  • 5-day, 40-hour work week, with flexibility during tech and openings

  • Benefits include paid time off, eye insurance, and access to professional development

  • A nine‑month Candidacy period is required before attaining full Resident Artist Membership, with the option for an earlier adoption vote
