This pièce by Arthur Miller photographs the consequences of the devastating economic crisis which took place in the United States in 1929 with a merciless clarity and bitter compassion. Sons of a father who had suffered the crisis in a particularly dramatic way, two brothers meet a few years after his death to clear out an apartment which is about to be demolished, and which contains the furniture and objects collected by their father over the course of a lifetime. An old broker has been called to determine the price. From this simple starting point, all of the misunderstandings and lies that the sudden loss of well-being can bring to those who suffer the crisis come to the surface. Miller handles the theme with his usual masterliness, leading us to discover a masterpiece which, despite coming from afar, leads us to our times so full of uncertainty.
