Italian Premiere Of THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA to be Presented In Florence
Italian Premiere Opera Production of The Light in the Piazza will take place on June 11 and 12, 2026 in Cortile di Michaelozzo, within the Medici Palace, Florence, Italy.
This coming June 2026, the Summer Opera Workshop at Accademia Europea di Firenze will perform the Italian premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical The Light in the Piazza, specifically composed about the history and spirit of Florence. This production will mark the first time this work is performed in Florence, where the musical takes place.
This Tony Award-winning musical by Adam Guettel is based on the 1960 novel by Elizabeth Spencer. The cast is comprised of students from, Accademia Europea di Firenze, Elon University alumni, professional singers, and current Elon students.
Margaret Johnson is played by Jill Bowen Gardner, Clara Johnson by Addy Reese, Fabrizio Naccarelli by Gianni Palmarini, and Giuseppe Naccarelli by JT Loveless. Franca Naccarelli is played by MacKenzie Tammara, Signor Naccarelli by Pedro Carrillo, Signora Naccarelli by Polly Butler Cornelius, and Roy Johnson by Jacob Brent. The Tour Guide/Ensemble is played by Sabetha Hersini, the Priest/Ensemble by El TBT, with additional ensemble members including Allie Joseph Stearns. Additional ensemble members include Charlie Minister, Samantha Probst, Niko Rinaldi, Kaitlyn Zimmermann, Emma Bruce, Laird Stearns, and Jordyn Sutton.
