In a village deep in the mountains, Giselle and Loys are deeply in love. But Loys has a secret – he is actually Count Albrecht, and betrothed to another. When jealous Hilarion unmasks his true identity, and his fiancée arrives to claim him, Giselle’s heartbreak is too much to bear and she takes her own life. Remorseful, Albrecht visits Giselle’s grave in the forest, but the bitter ghosts of jilted brides rise and condemn him to dance himself to death. Only Giselle’s love, powerful even from beyond the grave, can save him.
This stunning production shows why Giselle stands alongside Coppélia and Swan Lake as one of the most celebrated classical ballets.
