New Amsterdam Establishes New Partnership with Indianapolis Symphony

New Amsterdam--a non-profit artist-services organization and record label dedicated to supporting the public's engagement with new music by composers and performers whose work grows from the fertile ground between genres--is honored to announce it has teamed up with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in a unique residency that will focus on the artistic exploration into many forms of music in a symphonic format. Over the next two years, the ISO will periodically showcase the sophisticated, adventurous sound of highly trained composers and instrumentalists of the New Amsterdam community. In addition, New Amsterdam will work with the Orchestra in developing educational activities and community outreach programs that will bring the open-minded ethos of New Am into direct engagement with the needs of the greater ISO community.

Led by co-directors William Brittelle, Judd Greenstein, and Sarah Kirkland Snider, New Am has been christened one of the most influential voices in new music by The New York Times, New York Magazine and more, leading Time Out New York to proclaim, "few organizations have done more to shape 21st century music in New York City than New Amsterdam."

"New Amsterdam has been working to create a presenting model that embodies the singular spirit of our community as well as inspires artists' engagement with the public in new and exciting ways across the country," said Judd Greenstein, co-founder and co-director of New Amsterdam. "Just like New Am, the ISO is renowned for supporting classically trained performers and composers with solid conservatory training but who think, operate and perform without musical boundaries. We are thrilled to help the ISO continue to bring these artists to its audiences."

The residency is artistically unveiled in the ISO's Lilly Classical Series concerts on Feb. 1 and 2, when the ISO presents Brooklyn-based New Am co-director and composer William Brittelle's Dunes, a world premiere work which the composer wrote after a trek to Death Valley last year. To help visualize his inspiration, Brittelle invited videographer Stephen S. Taylor (the video mastermind behind Missy Mazzoli's Song from the Uproar) on his trek to interview the composer and document the creation and inspiration of the piece.
