HOUSTON (Jan. 14, 2020) Rice University Theatre will present David Ives collection of short comedies All In The Timing. Showtimes will run on February 28 & 29 at 8:00 p.m., March 1 at 3:00pm, and March 5, 6, & 7 at 8:00 p.m. Become entranced in a collection of short works from the renowned contemporary playwright, David Ives. All In The Timing includes six short plays under 15 minutes that offer a comedic, insightful, and reflective commentary on life through a set of anomalous occurrences including: Sure Thing Follow the story of a man and woman who meet each other for the first time at a local coffee shop, and find their encounter reset and looped from each awkward moment to next. What unfolds is a series of events that leads to hilarity, honesty, and romance. All to beg the question: What if you could go back and redo all the awkward moments from a first encounter?The Philadelphia A man finds himself stuck in an anomalous pocket of reality called a Philadelphia. In this pocket reality, ones every want and desire are met only with its opposite. If you want water, then you better ask for a soda. If you want a soda, then you better ask for water. Enjoy Ives wit and charm in this short play that answers the question- What do you do when youre stuck in Philadelphia?Words, Words, Words Can a monkey make art? How about writing a word for word copy of Hamlet? What if you had three monkeys set to the task? What would they come up with? Find out in this witty and reflective commentary on the human condition delivered from the viewpoint of three monkeys put to the task of writing Hamlet for themselves. Join us for these shorts plays and many more at the Hamman Hall Theatre on Rice Universitys campus. The production will be directed by Jack Young, Artistic Director of Houston Shakespeare Festival, and head of the MFA Professional Actor Training Program at the University of Houston, Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts. Youngs recent directing credits include Ring Around the Moon, (University of Houston) Comedy of Errors," (Arkansas Shakespeare Festival and Julius Caesar. (Houston Shakespeare Festival).Mark Krouskop, lecture and production manager for the Rice Theatre Program, will be the set designer for All in the Timing. Krouskop recently designed the set for Rice Universitys Fall 2019 production of As You Like It. Krouskop also designed the outdoor set for Rices production of A Midsummer Nights Dream, and the raining elevator for Eurydice. Costumes will be designed by the students majoring in the Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts at Rice University. Tickets are $5 for general admission; and $5 for groups of 10 or more.
