Honolulu Theatre for Youth and TeAda Productions are mounting the world premiere of Masters of the Currents a theatrical journey into the reality of life as a young Micronesian immigrant in the Aloha State. Led by TeAda creative duo Leilani Chan and Ova Saopeng, the piece has been created through first hand interviews and community participation. Masters of the Currents shares the journey of young Micronesians and their conflict of identity as they struggle to be accepted by their new peers in Hawaii while still holding onto the rich cultural traditions of Micronesia. This transformative piece tackles the heartbreaking reality of the bullying that exists within our Aloha state and sets out to change the tide of people's perception of the Micronesian community says director Leilani Chan.

Blue Note Hawaii welcomed local jazz musicians and fans of the late Jimmy Borges to the first annual jazz festival held in his honor at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort performance venue on July 30. It was a night to love and remember Jimmy Borges, Hawaii's gentleman of jazz. The Blue Note Hawaii tribute show was a night of musical aloha that likely had Ol' Gorgeous Borges smiling from above. Shari Lynn, JB's longtime partner in song, hosted and headlined with three other musical luminaries who had some link with him, largely as an influential and legendary jazz figure.

Claiming it will be better, though, because they'll go the "full monty"-strip all the way, these six loveable misfits attempt to conquer their fears, self-consciousness, and prejudices in this heartwarming, upbeat comedy. A recipient of three Academy Awards and eight GRAMMY Awards, he's racked up a remarkable 52 Top 40 hits, including 'Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head' and 'I Say a Little Prayer.' An eclectic lineup is featured this month at Blue Note Hawaii with an array of iconic national artists, local favorites and hilarious comedians. The Henry Kapono Artist to Artist Series continues with Jerry Santos of Olomana, followed by local greats Shawn Pimental and Lehua Kalima, one-man wonder Tavana, Kapono N??ili?ili, Brother Noland and of course the incomparable Willie K. The Blue Note Hawaii Comedy Series continues this month with Steve Byrne and Louie Anderson. National recording artist and GRAMMY Award-winning R&B icon Regina Belle kicks off the month and is book ended with a capella phenoms Take 6. More artists this month include bandoneon player JP Jofre and his Nuevo Tango Quartet, the amazing flamenco guitarist Ottmar Liebert and pop singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson. There are also two late-night shows with self-proclaimed blues road dog G Love, following his performances at the sold-out Jack Johnson concerts.

Easter Seals Hawaii (ESH) Kapolei location is hosting a family fun day with a special classic car show organized by Cal's Hot Rods for a Cause.  Guests are  encouraged to dress up in their favorite "oldies era" attire and bring the whole family to enjoy a host of activities including a penny sale, silent auction and special raffle prizes.  The car show will feature a variety of hot rods from the early 1900s, classic and muscle cars, bikes and more!  Aha Mele raises funds for Hawaii families living with disabilities and special needs.
