Blue Note Hawaii announced today a new venture: The Hawaii News Now Jazz Legends Series. Blue Note started in New York as a jazz club. Wanting to stay true to their roots, the institution of jazz will present some of the most iconic straight-ahead jazz artists in the world. Next up are more local favorites ManoaDNA and Danny and Nicholas Kaleikini. Average White Band returns by popular demand followed by Willie K and a celebration of Frank Sinatra's birthday with the Mike Lewis Big Band. Robert Cazimero continues his residency followed by the incomparable Herb Alpert and Lani Hall. Donavon Frankenreiter returns for three nights, followed by Jake Shimabukuro and a heart-warming Charlie Brown Christmas show. It wouldn't be New Year's without the much-anticipated return of legendary jazz saxophonist Kenny G.

The Jade Pendant tells the story of the Chinese Massacre of 1871 where a mob of around 500 white rioters entered Los Angeles, Chinatown to attack, rob, and murder Chinese residents of the city. An estimated 20 Chinese immigrants were tortured and then hanged by the racially motivated riot mob. The initial conviction was unlawfully overturned and no one has ever been held accountable for the murders.

T-Shirt Theatre proudly presents the world premiere of Kipuka, an oasis in a lava field. Imagine... a fiery volcano filled with hot magma, flowing down a lush hillside, incinerating everything in its path. Lava burns at 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, hot enough to melt rock. And yet, an isolated knoll, a ridge or a cleft is surprisingly untouched. A small patch of earth, saved from nature's inferno. That oasis in a lava field, where life can begin again, is called Kipuka. As T-Shirt Theatre searched for a way to approach the heat of bullying, cyber-bullying and teen suicide, Kipuka, an island of life emerged as the theme explored by our youth company of 33 Farrington High School students.

November at Blue Note Hawaii kicks off with one of the most influential saxophonists of our time GRAMMY Award-winner David Sanborn. Next up is a member of jazz royalty Delfeayo Marsalis along with his quintet and rounding out the lineup of international artists is jazz pianist Keiko Matsui. The stellar lineup of local artists is a who's who of Hawaiian music including Ka'imi Hanano'eau and the incomparable Jake Shimabukuro. Mid-month brings George Kahumoku Jr. & Bobby Ingano ft. Timmy Abrigo and Willie K. Audiences will be treated to one night only with Broadway songstress Loretta Ables Sayre. Thanksgiving week is a celebration with Anuhea & Friends, featuring special guest appearances by Lana Kei, Kimi Miner, Kamakakehau Fernandez, Mahi Crabbe and Paula Fuga. The month wraps up with performances by Hoku Zuttermeister, Ron Artis II and another not-to-be-missed series as Henry Kapono Presents: Back in the Day; The Songs of C&K featuring Gaylord Holomalia, Johnny Valentine, Blayne Asing, and Alx Kawakami.

This is the story of Elvis impersonator, Casey, who's young and broke. His landlord is knocking at the door, and he's just found out his wife is going to have a baby. To make matters even more desperate, Casey is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a run-down, small-town Florida bar. When the bar owner brings in a B-level drag show to replace his act, Casey finds that he's going to have to adapt to a whole new show business like none he's ever known as he trades one sequined outfit for another and genderbends into a drag show headliner.

Theatre October 20 through October 28 recounting the infamous Thalia Massie case in pre-statehood Hawai'i. Based on court records, newspaper articles, and witness testimony, Massie / Kahahawai is an unsettling play dealing with race relations in still segregated, early 1930s Honolulu.
