From September 2 to 7, 2025, the city of Turku, Finland, will host the New Performance Turku Biennale, a dynamic festival that showcases cutting-edge performance art from around the globe. This biennial event is renowned for its innovative approach, featuring a diverse array of performances that push the boundaries of traditional art forms.
The New Performance Turku Biennale offers a platform for artists to present works that are experimental, participatory, and often site-specific. The 2025 edition will include a variety of performances, installations, and collaborative projects that engage with contemporary themes and challenge audiences to experience art in new ways.
A highlight of the festival is the International Showcase, scheduled for September 6, 2025, at the Manilla Culture Factory. This event will feature five International Artists selected through an open call, each presenting solo performances that are light in production but rich in conceptual depth. The showcase aims to introduce fresh voices and perspectives to the Finnish performance art scene.
All events at the New Performance Turku Biennale are free of charge, emphasizing accessibility and community engagement. While most performances offer tickets at the door, some require pre-booking due to limited capacity. Reservations will open on August 9, 2025, and can be made through the festival's Eventbrite page. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as unclaimed pre-booked tickets may be released to walk-ins 15 minutes before showtime.
