BREAKDOWN
HARRY (45-55) White male. A life-long Chicagoan, a former comic turned sports radio host and a serious alcoholic. Harry is married, has two children and is expert at dodging responsibility and hard truths.
VINCE (45-55) Any ethnicity, male presenting. Vince is a divorced a dad with two children he adores. He has a girlfriend who is loyal and constantly checking in. Vince is warm and wise. He has a huge heart which has taken a beating once too often. This is his second time at rehab.
BARB (50-65) Any ethnicity, female presenting. Barb is the therapist. She is a recovering alcoholic and heroin addict with 25 years of sobriety and a strong and vibrant life. She is tough, with a wry sense of humor and doesn’t tolerate bullshit. She has seen every kind of avoidance, recognizes all of the excuses but believes no person is a lost cause.
ANDREA (late 30’s - mid 40’s) Any ethnicity, female presenting. Andrea has been to rehab multiple times, she’s also been married four or five times depending on how you count. Her parents divorced when she was young, her mother is alcoholic. Childless by choice, Andrea has a dry wit, deep wounds, a self-deprecating sense of humor and real courage.
ISAIAH (30’s) Any ethnicity, male presenting. Isaiah is whip smart and not very tolerant. A pharmacist by trade and because it makes feeding his oxy addiction easier, he is smooth and calculating. He doesn’t work to impress.
GEORGE (early 20’s) Any ethnicity, male presenting. George is not in rehab by choice. From a middle class family, his father and brother both died of heart disease in their early 30’s. From George’s perspective, he has a short time left so why spend it sober? Estranged from his mother and very much alone, he is goofy and lovable - if he were willing to let anyone close enough to care for him.
