Equity actors for roles in Weston Playhouse's 2022 Season (see breakdown).

Performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, body types, and abilities are encouraged to submit for all roles.



INSTRUCTIONS

SEE PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS IN BREAKDOWN. Please email headshot/resume along with your submission link in a streaming format (Vimeo, YouTube, etc.). Title your video: FULL NAME – WESTON THEATER 2022 EPA. Please do not attach full video files or send download links (ie, WeTransfer, YouSendIt, etc). In the subject line, please type: WESTON THEATER 2022 EPA – FULL NAME. Please indicate Equity status in email. Deadline: Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 5pm EDT.

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

If you are using an iPhone to video record, please be sure to film horizontally and in a well-lit space (not backlit). At the top of the video, please slate your name and height.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS: Please submit a monologue in the style of the show (not to exceed two minutes).

Woman: CAST. Single, average woman living alone in NYC, 30s.

Man: CAST. Single, average man living alone in NYC, 50s.

Actor-musicians encouraged to submit.

Nudity will be optional and will not be required of any actor. Any nudity will be fully at the discretion of the actor and will be discussed by the director, actor, and intimacy coordinator. Nudity will not be required for the audition. Any nudity during the show and rehearsals will be handled under strict adherence to Equity guidelines.

Roles:

Berger: A natural leader and an unrestrained animal. Passionate and secure in his beliefs, he knows what is right and sticks to it no matter the consequences. 20s. Any ethnicity. Rock baritone/tenor.

Claude: He questions the world around him but doesn’t let that questioning interfere with his playful spirit and abiding love of life. Charismatic and charming. 20s. Any ethnicity. Tenor.

Sheila: Sheila is an intellectual who believes that peaceful protest can change the world. She has a mature and steady heart. 20s. Any ethnicity. Rock alto/belter.

Woof: A fabulous antic, a playful provocateur, and a captivating creature. Woof looks up to Berger and Claude, but he has a hunch that someday they’ll look up to him. 20s. Any ethnicity. Rock baritone/tenor.

Hud: A natural leader, and one who trusts that you’re ready to follow where he wants to take you. Hud speaks his mind and knows that his friends will figure out how to keep up. Brave and forthright, energetic and confident. 20s. Black. Rock baritone.

Jeanie: A follower, not a leader. Profoundly generous and kindhearted, Jeanie is a true peace maker who sees what her friends need and helps them find it. 20s. Any ethnicity. Alto.

Dionne: Fun, fiery, and fabulous, she scales the heights with and for her friends, but knows how to bring them back to earth when needed. A natural comedian. 20s. Black. Alto/mezzo belt.

Crissy: The youngest and most wide-eyed of her friends, Crissy has already felt more love than most of them put together. 20s. Any ethnicity. Mezzo.

Tourist One: An impeccable comedian with perfect timing and a razor-sharp wit. A cisgender man, who’s comfortable with his femininity and enjoys dressing like a stylish woman from the 1950's. 20s-30s. Tenor with a strong falsetto. Any ethnicity.

Tourist Two: Stalwart and steadfast, threatened by the changes taking place around him but willing to learn. 20s-30s. Baritone/Tenor.


STEEL MAGNOLIAS, by Robert Harling

Directed by Sarah Elizabeth Wansley

Truvy Jones: 40ish. Owner of the beauty shop. Knows how to soothe a broken heart with a joke and a new hairdo.

Clairee Belcher: 66ish. Widow of former mayor. Grand Dame. Has an opinion about everything, and surprising wisdom about some things.

Annelle Dupuy-Desoto: Early 20s-30s. Beauty shop assistant. Anxious, kind and quirky. Wants to find a community. A strong guitar player.

Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie: 25. Daughter of M’Lynn. Sweet on the outside, strong willed on the inside. Makes friends everywhere she goes.

M’Lynn Eatenton: 50ish. Shelby’s mother. Socially prominent career woman. Strong but loving.

Ouiser Boudreaux: 66ish. Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic but loveable. Tough and outspoken.

MAN 1: CAST. 35-55, plays multiple instruments and is multiple characters that range throughout Woody Guthrie’s life; versatile in their ability to sing a variety of Woody’s song.
