SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:

BENNETT
40’s – 50’s. Henry Carr’s well informed longtime butler. Should have a strong presence. English accent.

NADYA
50’s – Early 60’s. Lenin’s wife. She is agitated by the news of the impending Russian revolution. Character speaks predominantly in Russian. When speaking English she uses an American accent.

ONE MAN to COVER the following
(male, late 40s-50s)

  • HENRY CARR: The central character and narrator of the play, a British consulate officer who disjointedly reminisces his experiences living in Zurich during the First World War. Plays both the present day version of himself, an elderly, fuddled man, and the younger version in his elegant and dapper youth. English accent.

ONE MAN to COVER the following:
(early 30s-early 40s)

  • TRISTAN TZARA: A charming, flamboyant, Romanian poet and artist. One of the leaders of the Dada movement. English accent.
  • JAMES JOYCE: An Irish modernist writer at work on his novel Ulysses. Incredibly intellectual and prudent. Excellent Irish accent and some singing and dancing required.

ONE MAN to COVER the following
(40’s –50’s)

  • LENIN: The Russian communist revolutionary just before the revolution. At the time of this play he is writing his book on Imperialism, in Zurich. Impassioned, dynamic, and described by Carr as having “a complex personality, enigmatic, magnetic.” American accent.
  • BENNETT (see above description)

ONE WOMAN to COVER
(30s)

  • CECILY: An attractive young librarian in Zurich with a revolutionary attitude toward politics and art. She marries Henry Carr and also appears as her eighty-year-old self. Singing required. English accent.
  • GWENDOLYN: Henry Carr’s younger sister and James Joyce’s secretary. Attractive and smart, with a personality to be reckoned with. Singing required. English accent.
