BREAKDOWN
PROJECT 251
Target Margin Theater is aggressively inclusive. We are especially committed to an ethnically diverse cast. Older and younger BIPOC and multi-ethnic actors are encouraged to audition. We also seek actors of all genders, sexualities, ages, physical abilities, and categories beyond what we know today! Experience with classical drama is helpful. We are an experimental theater company and actors must be comfortable with unorthodox approaches and unusual treatment of text. We seek actors who are comfortable trying things without knowing why.
PROJECT 251 is a new play, a meditation on the future of our country. This work aspires to lift up the absurdity of the U.S.A. today and turn in hope to a frighteningly uncertain future. It is a devised work that will draw on contemporary and historic reporting and documents, and the writings of authors such as Alfred Jarry, Edward Lear, and Gertrude Stein, Tristan Tzara, and Kurt Schwitters. PROJECT 251 aspires to nonsense, but a kind of nonsense that achieves its own resonance and beauty.
This will be an ensemble play. Cast members will need to be willing and ready to contribute to an open and inclusive process, and to adjust to the dynamic evolution of the piece.
We are
SEEKING
two actors (any gender) to join our principal ensemble. Actors will shift and share roles often, depending on the sections we choose for adaptation. As with any devised work, the shape of this will be largely determined by our collaborative process. See below for representative characterBREAKDOWN
s.SEEKING:
ENSEMBLE 1 and ENSEMBLE 2: Any gender, and age; physically flexible and adept with heightened language. Cast members will be engaged in an intense devising process with a small group of collaborators. This work will be non-narrative and it will not have conventional characters. Ensemble members will assume various voices and roles quickly and interchangeably. There is no script, and there will be no script on the first day of rehearsal. This work is based in Nonsense. It will not make sense. Cast members must be willing to try things for no reason, to experiment freely, and to work with unresolved mysteries. Cast members must be comfortable with illogical events that happen in incoherent sequence and disjointed apparently random language. In fact, cast members should not only be comfortable with all this nonsense, they should be enthusiastic about exploring it.
ENSEMBLE 3: ALREADY CAST. Same
