BREAKDOWN

Carol Lashof’s THE MELTING POT is an American love story – Boy meets Girl, and Nation meets Metaphor. The play distills Israel Zangwill’s seminal 1906 work of the same name, along with found text from the early 20th century culture wars, plus original characters and dialogue to tell a new story that reflects on our nation’s past and present stance toward immigration. This piece is ensemble-driven and spans time and place to tell a story that reaches beyond its origins to explore the humanity and history in each of us.

Production states: Everyday Inferno seeks and strongly encourages diversity of all kinds on and offstage. We are looking for a diverse cast for this play and STRONGLY encourage actors of all ethnicities, types, accents, gender presentation, and physical ability to apply for these roles, regardless of any implications related to the character’s names or their descriptions in Zangwill’s original play. Some characters in this play speak Yiddish, please note if you have any familiarity with the language (this will be taken into account, but is NOT required). We are particularly interested in seeing actors who play instruments – if you sing, or play an instrument, please note that information in your submission.
