George (male): 30s-40s, dreamer; frustrated; tough; hard physical worker; and caretaker of Lennie

Lennie (male): 30s-40s, a large man with a childlike mind; physically strong

Candy (male): 60s-70s, a stoop-shouldered old ranch hand whose best friend is his aging dog

The Boss (male): 40s-60s, a stocky man; superintendent of a big land company; means business

Curley (male): 20s-30s, a small pugilist with a huge chip on his shoulder, always looking for a fight

Curley’s Wife (female): 20s, attractive; overdone makeup; a flirt

Slim (male): 40s-50s, tall, dark man, and well-respected leader

Whit (male): 20s-40s, ranch hand

Carlson (male): 20s-40s, ranch hand

Crooks (male): African-American, slim-faced, crooked back from a mule kick
