BREAKDOWN
ELIZA DOOLITTLE
A fiercely independent Covent Garden flower girl who scrubs her way up from her screechy cockney self into a woman with bearing, intelligence and self-respect. (All of these features have always been there but not always visible to polite society.)
- Age: 21-30
- Vocal: Soprano. A3 to G5
- Moves well.
ALFRED P. DOOLITTLE
Eliza's dustman father. He is a charismatic, unrepentant scoundrel who accidentally acquires middle-class wealth and respectability - as much as he tries to avoid it. Wiry energy and very quick wit.
- Age: 50+
- Vocal: Baritone. G3 to E4
- Moves well.
COLONEL PICKERING
Amiable linguist colleague of Henry Higgins. A gentleman, a colonel and an academic who studies Indian dialects. While he shares Higgins' interests in linguistics, he is not as extreme in his devotion to his intellectual pursuits. He is humane and believably warm to Eliza.
- Age: 50+
- Vocal: Baritone
- Will double as THE BARTENDER
MRS. HIGGINS
Henry Higgins' sensible, very high-society mother. She disapproves of her son's rude manners and questionable lifestyle. Most hospitable to Eliza.
- Age: 50+
- Vocal: Alto
- Will double as MRS HOPKINS - a boisterous Cockney woman who thrives on gossip about Eliza.
MRS PEARCE
The head housekeeper for Henry Higgins. A voice of reason, she attempts to keep order in the chaotic household and challenges Higgins' arrogance and lack of manners. She acts as a mother figure and teacher to Eliza, ensuring she is treated with basic respect.

- Vocal: Mezzo-Soprano
- Will double LADY BOXINGTON - a high-society guest at Ascot. (Also: A COCKNEY FLOWER SELLER.)
MAN #5 - BUSKER, COCKNEY, JAMIE, STEWARD

HENRY HIGGINS (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)
Male. 30-65. A world-renowned, arrogant, and egotistical bachelor who specializes in phonetics. Brilliant, yet emotionally detached and boorish. A master of crisp British RP, strong comedic and dramatic timing, and a character baritone range of Bb2-E4.
FREDDY ENYSFORD-HILL (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)
Male. 25-35. A wealthy, polite, and hopelessly smitten young upper-class man who falls instantly for Eliza. Romantic leading-man aesthetic, bright tenor/high baritone range (C3-F4).
MAN #7 (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)
Male. 25-30. Tenor. Cockney #3/Bystander, Butler, Lord Boxington.
WOMAN #4 (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST)
Female. 25-30. Alto. Mrs. Eynsford-Hill, Angry Woman, Tottenham Rd Cockney, Maid.
