SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in NORMA RAE (see breakdown).

In order to protect the health, safety, and peace of mind of everyone in our lab, COVID-19 vaccinations will be mandated for everyone working on the production, and members of the audiences. “Vaccination” means fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the CDC: more than 14 days having passed following receipt of a final dose of FDA or WHO authorized or approved vaccine

BREAKDOWN

Seeking:

Norma - (20’s-Early 30’s) White. Tough and unapologetic. Young, single mother who works at a textile mill in North Carolina. She is overworked and underpaid. Leads the mill workers to unionize and refuses to back down until conditions in the factory improve. A strong singer.

Vernon - (50’s) Norma’s father. White. Tough, physically imposing, he has spent his life working in the mill. Vernon does not approve of Norma’s attempts to unionize the factory as he does not want to make waves or risk losing his job. Sings.

Leona - (50’s) White. Norma’s mother. Has also spent a lifetime working in the mill but unlike her husband, has a softness and vulnerability about her. Quick to admit fault, even when she shouldn’t. Sings.

Reuben - (30‘s-50’s) Jewish, New Yorker. A war veteran and a union organizer. Reuben is tough, masculine, funny and charismatic. Sings.

Billie Parks - (Mid 20’s-Mid 30’s) Black. Works at the mill. Billie is a mother and a widower. Authoritative and has a natural sense of power. Able to access anger. A strong singer.

Lucius White - (Mid 20’s-30’s) Black. Works at the mill. Wiry and slender. Lucius has a rightful chip on his shoulder. A strong singer.

Emmett Washington - (30’s-50’s) Black. Works at the mill. Nervous shy and self-effacing. Reticent at first to put his family and job at risk by joining the strike. A strong singer.
