ANNA CHRISTIE
By Eugene O’Neill
Director, Scott Edmiston
First Rehearsal: March 13, 2018
Opening: April 6, 2018
Closing: May 6, 2018

Seeking:

ANNA CHRISTIE:
25; Uneducated, intelligent, tough, and emotionally damaged young women. She has been living on her own since the age of 16, surviving as a prostitute. “Her youthful face is already hard and cynical.” Beneath her survivor’s strength and palpable sadness, she has a luminous vulnerability and romantic longing.

MAT BURKE:
30; An Irish seaman, big-hearted, cocky, charming, and hardened by years at sea. “He is a powerful, broad-chested six-footer, his face handsome in a rough, bold, defiant way.” Clinging to his Irish Catholic upbringing, he is most comfortable in the company of hard-drinking men yet has the romantic disposition of a teenager. Irish dialect.

THE BARTENDER:
30s-50s; The barkeep at Johnny-the-Priest’s, a low dive saloon near South Street, New York City. Beneath his friendly, upbeat demeanor, one senses the man behind the mask—cynical, callous, and hard as nails.
