KING JAMES

SYNOPSIS: LeBron James isn’t just a basketball superstar — he was Cleveland’s hero. As one of the greatest players in NBA history, his impact on the city was undeniable throughout his years on the court there. Exploring the power of sports, loyalty, and human connection, Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph crafts a funny and deeply poignant story about two friends whose lives are forever shaped by their shared devotion to their idol.

SEEKING:

[SHAWN] Black Male. 25-35. Meticulous, smart and shy, but charming. Holds things close to the vest. A deep soul. A diehard basketball fan, he unexpectedly becomes great friends with Matt because of a shared love of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Observant and artistic, he pursues his dream of becoming a writer which he does not share with Matt. Has skill with comedy, a working knowledge of basketball and a willingness to be vulnerable. Basketball skills are a plus.

[MATT] White Male 25-35. Warm, messy, outgoing. He is friendly, but opinionated, passionate and competitive and often speaks before thinking. Searching for purpose. A diehard basketball fan, he unexpectedly becomes good friends with Shawn because of a shared love of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Has a complicated relationship with his parents. Feels betrayed when Shawn pursues his dream and doesn’t know how to express it. Has skill with comedy, a working knowledge of basketball and a willingness to be vulnerable. Basketball skills are a plus.
