SEEKING

Equity actors for this World Premiere. Pipeline Theatre Company, known for its imaginative and adventurous storytelling.

The eleven actors of the cast will form a troupe of troubadours who spin together tales from tenement Manhattan, the deserts of Utah, and small-town Indiana.

Looking for folky, soulful, gritty voices of all types and varieties. The ability to play an instrument is a plus (particularly guitar, ukulele, mandolin, autoharp, banjo, violin, viola, clarinet, flute, accordion, harmonium).

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief folk/rock/contemporary song that shows your style and vocal range. Bring sheet music and a photo/resume stapled together. A piano accompanist will be provided.

BREAKDOWN

Folk Wandering is an exploration of the hopes and heartbreaks that weave through our American fabric, and of the untold past that propels us forward. We are seeking adventurous and game actors/singers who are comfortable being a part of an ensemble.

SEEKING:

ROSEALIA FABRISIO:
Any ethnicity, adult actor 18+ to play 14, bright Mezzo-Soprano. An Italian girl living in a tenement who is forced to work in the factory when she is old enough, but she dreams of becoming a journalist. Fiery, spunky, independent, and youthful. PRINCIPAL

HARLAN/STEVE (dual role):
Any ethnicity, 20s to 30, Tenor who can be both shout-y and mellow. Strong comedic chops are necessary. PRINCIPAL

  • HARLAN: A young, earnest boy living in a tenement. Rosealia’s neighbor and friend.
  • STEVE: A grizzled Midwestern alcoholic who is a regular at the bar. Irreverent humor, his own best friend.

BOBBY LOMBARDI:
Any ethnicity, 20s to 30s, Suave Tenor with big range. A runaway musician who is mistaken for James Dean when he is hiding out in a small Indiana town. Smooth, handsome, confident, self-important. Exhibits all his privilege, for his own betterment, at the expense of others. Ability to play guitar is a plus. PRINCIPAL

HANNAH SAMSON:
Any ethnicity, 20s to 30s, pop-rock Mezzo-Soprano. On-again, off again love interest of Bobby. She cares for him, but their relationship is toxic. Passionate, short-tempered, intelligent, and vicious. Alanis Morissette-type singer. PRINCIPAL

EVERETT RUESS:
Any ethnicity, 20s to 40s, grungy Tenor or high Baritone. Ability to play guitar, uke, mandolin, or bango is a plus. Vagabond who leaves behind his life to wander the natural west, mysterious, haunting. Good-hearted and good-natured. Finds the beauty in small things. Folky voice necessary and musical instruments are definitely a plus. PRINCIPAL

KAI:
Any ethnicity, late 20s to 40s, airy Mezzo-Soprano. Dustbowl mother. Worn and weary. Dealt a bad hand, but determined to make the best of it. Strong, ruthless. PRINCIPAL

DOROTHEA LANGE/NORMA PANCAKES (dual role):
Any ethnicity, 30s to 70s, Mezzo-Soprano or Soprano. Strong comedic chops are necessary. Character actress able to meld with the ensemble and shine brightly at alternate points. PRINCIPAL

  • DOROTHEA: Photographer, well-off, good listener.
  • NORMA PANCAKES: Roller skating diner waitress.

RAT VON QUILTY/ALBERTO FABRISIO (dual role):
Any ethnicity, 30s to 50s, rich Baritone or Bass. Strong comedic chops, larger-than-life and loving personalities welcome. PRINCIPAL

  • RAT VON QUILTY: Congenial person at the bar.
  • ALBERTO FABRISIO: A jolly father who wants the best for his children.

BARKEEP/JOEY (dual role):
Any ethnicity, 20s to 30s, Tenor. Ability to play piano is a plus. PRINCIPAL

  • BARKEEP: Immaculate bartender who whips up a mean drink. Nary any lines, but a striking physical presence and vocabulary.
  • JOEY: Melodramatic, young lover of Sadie, dreamer. Fresh-faced, excited by life.

SADIE FABRISIO/ALMA (dual role):
Any ethnicity, 20s to 30s, sweet Mezzo-Soprano. Ability to play piano is a plus. PRINCIPAL

  • SADIE FABRISIO: Practical, young lover of Joey.
  • ALMA: 6 year old little girl. Fearless, spunky, and outspoken.

CAROLINE/CATHERINE (dual role):
Any ethnicity, 20s to 40s, cutting true Soprano with alto notes. PRINCIPAL

  • CAROLINE: Classic high school mean girl. Overachiever. Out to get the guy.
  • CATHERINE: Immigrant mother. Loving, warm, hard-working. Looks out for her family, fiercely devoted to them.
