NOTE: This is a high-style Edwardian romantic farce requiring trained actors who sing beautifully and have great comic skills. All roles are similar stylistically to characters in Oscar Wilde plays. Facility with British accents is required. The style of the score is completely legit – a hybrid between CANDIDE, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and Gilbert & Sullivan.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

MONTY NAVARRO

(late 20s – mid 40s): Handsome and effortlessly charming, clever and charismatic, vulnerable and endearing, with a highly developed appreciation for life’s ironies. Monty is the engine of the plot; must be able to command attention and draw the audience in. High baritone with a strong top; solid low A to high A.

SIBELLA

(20s – 30s): Sexy, flirtatious, narcissistic, willful, calculating, and irresistible. Character mezzo, low F# to high A, belting not required.

PHOEBE

(20s – 30s): Beautiful, virtuous, forthright, romantic, comically earnest, with a backbone of steel. Coloratura soprano to a high sustained B, very flexible and agile, B below middle C on the bottom.

WOMAN # 1

(late 40s – late 50s): Plays MISS SHINGLE and other roles. MISS SHINGLE is a housekeeper/governess who has served a wealthy, titled family for 30 years. Should be a comic character actress. Can be a mezzo but range should cover low A to high A.

MAN #1

(mid 20s – 40s) Plays ATTENDANT, FARMER, MR. WATERS, MAGISTRATE, GUARD. Also plays other roles. The MAGISTRATE has a featured number with the DETECTIVE. We’re seeking a younger character man. Should be a tenor from a B to a solid high A.
