BWW Reviews: MAMMA MIA! is a Fun, Entertaining Time at the Fisher Theatre
Mamma Mia! has returned to the Fisher Theatre and brought the happy, good time with it that the show is known for. The national tour of one of the top selling musicals on Broadway brings the songs of ABBA and the air of a Greek Island to Detroit through November 10th and is a fun time for anyone who attends.
Georgia Kate Haege and Chelsea Willaims lead the show as the mother and daughter pair of Donna and Sophie Sheridan. The chemistry between the two makes them the perfect team. Haege is just outstanding in everything she does on stage as Donna. Her stage presence makes her one to watch throughout the show, while her voice is incredible and takes over the entire theatre when she belts with passion and beauty. Willaims is endearing as Sophie and lights up the stage. She plays the character sweetly and her joy of performing is felt throughout the entire show.
Donna's friends, Tayna and Rosie, played by Gabrielle Mirabella and Carly Sakolove are a delight on stage. Both have impressive comedic timing that brings a lot of laughs to the audience along with singing voices that work well in the produciton. The three leading men, Michael Colavolpe, Mark A. Harmon, and Don Winsor, also have great comedic timing and great voices as Bill, Harry, and Sam. Another stand out in the cast is Neil Starkeberg as Pepper. His energy and dancing skills make him one to watch throughout the show. The entire company is wonderful and works really well together to bring the show to life.
The high spirited, brightly colored, and energy filled show is fun from beginning to end and for all ages, whether fans of ABBA's music when it came out or new ones experiencing it for the first time, seeing the show will not be a disappointment for anyone. Mamma Mia! transports the audience to a Greek Island for a night of entertainment with a great cast, heartfelt story, and beautiful music. It should not be missed!
Mamma Mia! is playing now through November 10th at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit. For more information and tickets, visit www.broadwayindetroit.com.
