Possum Point Players' TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Begins Tonight

By:

Possum Point Players perform the American classic, "To Kill a Mockingbird," just as the name of author Harper Lee is once again in literary headlines. This Pulitzer Prize winning story of innocent youngsters, a heroic lawyer father and the tragedy of racism in a small southern town will be on stage in Possum Hall just a month before Lee's long hidden "Go Set a Watchman" is published.

"To Kill a Mockingbird" is performed tonight, June 5, and June 6, 7 12, 13, 14. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at possumpointplayers.org or by calling 302-856-4560; all seats are reserved. Tickets are $18; seniors and students, $17.

Director John Hulse has assembled a cast of more than 30 actors from southern Delaware to tell the story of a summer of coming of age for young Scout and Jem. Barefoot and free days become a time of watching and learning as their father Atticus takes on the seemingly insurmountable task of defending a young African American man who is accused of a horrible crime. Adapted for stage by Christopher Sergel, the play illustrates, as the original book does, the timeless importance of facing inequity and falsehood with truth and courage, no matter what the consequences.

Possum Point Players is supported, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
