The Human Race Theatre Hosts 'Commedia For Teachers' Workshop 8/13

The Human Race Theatre Company will present a workshop for teachers that's sure to bring a smile to the faces of participants - not to mention a bunch of guffawing and knee-slapping. "Commedia for Teachers" is a hands-on workshop on the stereotypical characters of Commedia dell'Arte and its Lazzi, or bits, which have brought laughter to audiences around the world from the Renaissance to YouTube.
Professional performers/educators Jake Lockwood and Jean Howat Berry will lead the workshop, which will take place from 6-9pm August 13 at the Caryl D. Philips Creativity Center, 116 N. Jefferson St. The fee is only $10, and all participants will receive a student study guide on Commedia dell'Arte.The workshop serves as a prelude to the Human Race production of Lazzi-Faire: the Comedy of Commedia, which will tour Southwest Ohio middle and high schools in October. Lockwood is writing and directing the 40-minute presentation, which covers the evolution of Commedia dell'Arte and its characters and the development of the language of comedy that has generated laughter for centuries.To register for the workshop, to book the show, or for information, call (937) 461-3823.
