As the curtain falls on another successful season in Kettering, Playhouse South Community Theatre is thrilled to announce their 50th anniversary season. The 2010 season celebrates the fun and magic of 50 years of live theater in South Dayton. There is something for adults and children alike.

The season opens on December 11, 2009 with the annual musical review, In the Spotlight. In the Spotlight celebrates the shows of the 2009 season and gives audiences a sneak peak into the 2010 season. With musical numbers from Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar, Annie and many others, this is a show to enjoy and remember.

Playhouse South follows this special event with the award winning musical comedy, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change January 7-9, 2010. This hilarious and insightful show reveals the difficulties and joys of connecting with another person in a series of vignettes connected by the central theme of love and relationships, spanning from dating, to marriage to parenthood.

The season continues on February 26, 2010 with the area premiere of Jonathan Larson's hit musical Rent. Rent is a rock opera based on Puccini's opera La Boheme. It tells the story of a community of young artists struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Alphabet City in the shadow of AIDS. Rent is a life affirming musical that celebrates solidarity, love, diversity and the power of friendship.

Following this intense show is the teenage comedy, And Never Been Kissed. The story is about Flory Patterson, an almost 16 year old who has never been kissed and devotes every moment to attracting the opposite sex. Set in 1928, the fast pace, clever dialog and unusual situations are hilarious in this true to life flapper comedy. Performances begin April 23, 2010.

Playhouse South continues the fun with another special event musical review which focuses on the youth in the community. Kids in the Spotlight is another lighthearted review which showcases the talents of the children and young adults in the Dayton area. Performances are May 28 - 29, 2010.

Next, The Playhouse goes back to a classic Shakespearean comedy, Twelfth Night. Twelfth Night is a comedy of mistaken identities, romantic misadventures, and practical jokes filled with many twists and turns and gender bending surprises. Twelfth Night performances are June 18-20, 2010.

Returning to the charm of the musical comedy, Playhouse South's will bring the timeless tale of Little Orphan Annie to the Theater Under the Stars stage with performances August 13-22, 2010 at Springboro's North Park. Annie will give a new generation the chance to experience the musical about never giving up hope. The original production of Annie won seven 1977 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and Book. You can bet your bottom dollar that Annie will bring a smile to your face with memorable songs like "Tomorrow", "N.Y.C." and "It's a Hard Knock Life." A show for the entire family.

The laughs just keep coming to close the 50th anniversary season. If comedies and farces are your favorite choice of theater, Moon Over Buffalo is sure to please. This comedy by Ken Ludwig who wrote Lend Me A Tenor is the story of an acting couple who are on tour in Buffalo with a repertory consisting of Cyrano de Bergerac (revised one nostril version) and Noel Coward's Private Lives. Fate has given these thespians one more shot at starring roles in The Scarlett Pimpernel epic and director Frank Capra himself is en route to Buffalo to catch their performance. Hilarious misunderstandings are piled on madcap adventures.

Individual ticket prices for most Playhouse South productions are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for students. Season tickets include performances of Rent, And Never Been Kissed, Moon Over Buffalo and either I Love You You're Perfect Now Change or Twelfth Night and are $32 if purchased before December 31, 2009 and $40 after that.
