Auditions for the production of THE MIRACLE WORKER at the Dayton Playhouse will begin on Saturday August 15th. Director Jennifer Lockwood will hold Children's Auditions on Saturday, August 15th and Adult Auditions on August 17th and 18th. Schedule and details are included below.

Children's auditions: Saturday, August 15th - 1:00 pm

We will be doing both individual and group improvisations - dress comfortably. Some of the girls auditioning for Helen May be called back to the adult auditions.

Adult auditions: Monday & Tuesday, August 17 & 18 7:00 pm

The adult auditions will consist of readings from the script.

The following roles are available:

Annie Sullivan* - 20, Irish accent, she is a fighter by necessity - born into extreme poverty, nearly blind herself, she is acutely aware of her lack of education and refinement.

Helen Keller* - 6-9, blind, deaf and mute, a tyrant, has never been disciplined so she uses tantrums to get what she wants - and she always gets what she wants.

*Special note: Annie and Helen are physically demanding roles. Their many struggles will be staged with the help of a trained fight-coordinator, but some scrapes and bruises (and sore muscles) are likely during the rehearsal process.

Kate Keller - late 20's to mid 30's, Southern accent, sweet, stronger than she knows, worn down by the past 5 years of disappointments and struggles with Helen.

Captain Keller - late 40's to 50's, Southern accent, successful businessman, used to military order and frustrated by the chaos in his home, not affectionate or friendly but not really a tyrant either.

James Keller - 20's, Southern accent, desperate to find a way out from under his father's shadow, smart and sarcastic

Aunt Ev - 40's -60's, Southern accent, fine southern lady with too much time on her hands.

Viney - 30's and up, African-American, maid and cook, part of the family with her own ideas of handling "the problem."

Percy & Martha - 9-13, African-American, Viney's children who also live on the plantation

Dr. Anagnos - 50+ - Annie's teacher and mentor from the blind school

Jennifer will also be looking to fill the roles of 4-6 girls from the blind school (ages 6-14) and a family doctor.

Dayton Playhouse is located at 1301 E. Siebenthaler Avenue, Dayton, OH 45414.
