About this studio
Dance Initiative is a non-profit based at 76 S 4th Street in Carbondale, Colorado, whose stated mission is supporting the art and creation of dance through education, collaboration and presentation. It works to give residents of Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley broad access to dance, and states that its programming is open to all regardless of background, income, religion, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political leaning, or physical and mental capability. Its activities include youth and adult education classes, visiting artist residencies and workshops, a school partnership program that places teaching artists in local schools, a folklorico program, a partnership with the Navajo Nation, local sponsorships and collaborations, and co-management of The Launchpad studios, where it also produces and presents local dance. Scholarships are offered for classes.
