About this studio
Performa/Dance is a contemporary dance organization founded in Austin, Texas in 2014 by choreographer Jennifer Hart and dancer Edward Carr, and is a presenting company rather than a teaching studio. Its stated mission is to present exploratory, original dance work by women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ choreographers, reconsidering contemporary ballet outside its usual bounds and working in dialogue with artists across other disciplines. Over its first decade the company has programmed work by local and national choreographers including Nic Lincoln, Christian Warner, BLiPSWiTCH, Magdalena Jarkowiec, Alexa Capareda and ARCOS, with the aim of showcasing historically underrepresented artists.
