New Archangel Dancers Www

The New Archangel Dancers are a Sitka, Alaska folk dance group founded in 1969 and based at 208 Smith Street. Their mission is to promote and encourage interest in Alaska's Russian history and culture through folk dance and song, traditions that were prominent in Sitka during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The group supports the performing arts in the Sitka community and helps promote tourism, taking show requests for special occasions and presenting summer and year-round performances, including a season at Harrigan Centennial Hall. A performance is staged annually around Alaska Day to support that celebration and to showcase the repertoire for the local community. The Dancers have performed in Japan, Canada, Mexico and Russia and are regarded by many as ambassadors for Sitka and Alaska, and the group recruits new members through a Become a Dancer program.
