Melange Dance Company

Melange Dance Company is a New Orleans-based non-profit contemporary dance company founded in 2014 by founding artistic director Monica Ordonez and executive director Alexa Erck Lambert. Its name reflects the diversity of its dancers' cultures, backgrounds and techniques, and Ordonez's choreography is built on a connection between movement, music and narrative. The company creates original evening-length productions on historical and social themes, frequently drawing out lesser-known feminist stories, and supports them with film, set design and period costuming; works include Love Letters of World War II, Fantomes, RISE, La Resistance and The UpStairs Lounge. It has produced eight evening-length productions and received a Gambit Classical Arts Award for Outstanding Choreography, Evening Length. Alongside performance it offers free dance classes twice a week, and is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Louisiana Division of the Arts and Arts New Orleans.
