Undermain Theatre Hosts World Premiere of HOW IS IT THAT WE LIVE OR SHAKEY JAKE + ALICE To open its 35th season, Undermain Theatre is proud to present the world premiere of Company Member Len Jenkin's How is it That We Live or Shakey Jake + Alice. The show traces the arc of the lives of two lovers through the years, from the first kiss to the last goodbye and everything in between. On the road, in an indelible American landscape, Shakey Jake + Alice launch themselves on a poetic quest as they dance to the end of love. Longtime Undermain collaborator Len Jenkin explores the psyches of life-long partners to answer the question, "How is it that we live?"

Undermain Artistic Director *Katherine Owens directs. She leads a creative team which includes Set, Lighting and Costume Design by *John Arnone, Sound Design by Paul Semrad, and Properties by Linda Noland.

The cast is as follows:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A hero of the avant-garde and Undermain company member, Len Jenkin returns to Undermain following a long line of acclaimed award-winning productions of Jenkin's plays such as Jonah, Margo Veil, Port Twilight, Time in Kafka, Abraham Zobell's Home Movie: Final Reel and Poor Folks Pleasure. Len Jenkin's credentials and awards include three Obie Awards for directing and playwriting, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Sundance Fellowship, a Rockefeller Foundation Award, a nomination for an Emmy Award, four National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and a PhD in literature from Columbia University. His stage plays have been produced throughout the United States, as well as in England, Germany, France, Denmark, and Japan. In New York his plays have been produced at Lincoln Center, Soho Rep, The Flea, The Chocolate Factory, The Public Theater and many others.

Celebrating 35 years since its inception in 1984, Undermain Theatre is a company of artists that performs experimental works in Texas, New York, and Europe, collaborates with playwrights to develop original and world premiere productions, publishes plays, and sustains a theater in Dallas's historic Deep Ellum. As defined by their mission statement, Undermain Theatre seeks to inspire, educate and challenge audiences and artists through its production of innovative theater with particular interest in poetic and language-driven work.
