Michael Feinstein Performs Illustrious Show For TITAS

By:
Vocalist-Pianist Michael Feinstein does more than just entertain.  He beguiles, captivates, and charms his audience into a state of euphoria.  From Cole Porter to Marvin Hamlisch, from on-target impressions to moments of hilarity about his career, Mr. Feinstein delivers—a lot quicker than UPS or FedEx.

Last evening in the McFarlin Auditorium at SMU under the presentation of TITAS, Mr. Feinstein put on a show that was dazzling, delightful, and delicious.  His vocal range is wide enough to be an expressway.   He was moving and tender in quiet numbers like "No One is Alone" and "My Romance" and then unleashed his vocal power in "Come Back To Me."

Whether singing or playing the piano, Mr. Feinstein seemed to be as delighted to be on stage as the audience was to have him there.  He attacked every number he performed with boyish-like enthusiasm and incredible levels of energy.  Mr. Feinstein also enjoys interacting with the audience and is amazingly quick with a humorous remark utilizing timing many a professional comedian would envy.

The musical program was quite varied and satisfying.  Besides singing standards like "I Got Rhythm," and "Alexander's Ragtime Band," Mr. Feinstein also performed rarities such as "Pigfoot Pete" that Gene du Paul and Don Raye wrote for a 1940s film.

Mere words cannot describe the impact that he has on his audience.  At the end of the evening, we all felt exhilarated and glad we had come along for the ride.  To cap the concert, Mr. Feinstein did a nuclear version of Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls of Fire" that sent electric currents through the auditorium.

Michael Feinstein is deserving of the same adjectives one would apply to Filet Mignon and Dom Perignon:  a quite exquisite, utterly delectable, classic.
