Denton Community Theatre Stages THE LION IN WINTER This Month

By: Jan. 15, 2016

First produced by the company in 1995, during the Campus Theatre's inaugural year as a performing arts venue, Denton Community Theatre (DCT) is proud to present THE LION IN WINTER by James Goldman. Directed by Mildred A. Peveto, this dramatic comedy is based on historical characters and events.

It is Christmas of 1183 and King Henry II, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, their three surviving sons, Richard, Geoffrey, and John; and a guest, King Philip of France, vie for power over the empire. Eleanor has been imprisoned by Henry for 10 years and is allowed out only for Christmas Court. The audience quickly sees that her gamesmanship skills are finely honed and it is easy to understand why Henry keeps her influence locked away. The family relentlessly plots against one another and you are ever quite sure where each character's loyalty lies. While the plot is deadly serious, the characters' witty verbal sparring and intricate scheming will keep you chuckling.

Performances are tonight, January 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 at 7:30pm and January 17, 24 at 2:00pm at the Campus Theatre located at 214 W. Hickory, Denton. Ticket prices are $22 for adults, $18 for seniors (62+), and $15 for students (through college) and $10 for children 12 and under.

Tickets are available at www.dentoncommunitytheatre.com, or at the Campus Theatre Box Office Monday through Friday from 1:00pm - 5:00pm. Credit card purchases may be done over the phone during these same hours by calling 940-382-7014. Box Office also opens one hour prior to each performance for walk-up patrons.
