Dallas Theater Center announced today complete details for The School for Wives and Medea, the first productions in DTC's new multi-year Classical Theater Initiative, which will feature masterpieces of theatrical literature from around the world. The shows, which will be performed in repertory at the historic Kalita Humphreys Theater, are both directed by DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty. The School for Wives begins previews on Friday, February 20 and Medea on Thursday, February 19, both with Pay-What-You-Can performances. They will each have closing performances on Sunday, March 29. Tickets to The School for Wives and Medea are on sale now at www.DallasTheaterCenter.org.

"Our focus at Dallas Theater Center is on creating work that is representative of and responsive to the world we live in today, hoping to spark meaningful dialogue within our community. Often this involves producing new plays and musicals, but with the launch of the Classical Theater Initiative, we seek to expand our work to also include high impact productions of great work from long ago that have withstood the test of time," said DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty. "Moliere is one of the greatest playwrights in French literature and The School for Wives is one of his wittiest comic masterpieces. This hilarious play, paired with Euripides' Medea, one of the most emotionally moving stories from Ancient Greece, allows us to explore the role of women in society and the cost to everyone in a community when equality and justice are denied."

The School for Wives, Molière's hilarious 18th century play, is filled with scheming and young love, it tells the story of Arnolphe, played by Brierley Resident Acting Company member Chamblee Ferguson (The Rocky Horror Show, Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure) and his attempt to woo a much younger perfect bride and keep her admirer out of the picture. The School for Wives is performed in rotating rep with Medea, which stars Brierley Resident Acting Company member Sally Nystuen Vahle (Clybourne Park) in the title role. Euripides' tale of betrayal and vengeance, written in the 5th century BCE, will take audiences into the Kaltia's Down Center Stage basement performance space for the first time in more than 30 years.

The full cast for The School for Wives includes Brierley Resident Acting Company members Kieran Connolly (Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, Red) as Chrysalde in The School for Wives and Creon in Medea; Daniel Duque-Estrada (LES MISERABLES, Oedipus el Rey) as Horace in The School for Wives and Young Man in Medea; Chamblee Ferguson as Arnolphe in The School for Wives and Aegues in Medea; Liz Mikel (The Rocky Horror Show, A Raisin in the Sun) as Georgette in The School for Wives and Nurse in Medea; Sally Nystuen Vahle as Angelique in The School for Wives and Medea in Medea; and Christie Vela as Woman of Corinth in Medea. Additional members of the cast are Chris Hury (God of Carnage) as Alain in The School for Wives and Jason in Medea; Morgan Laure as Agnes in The School for Wives; and Dennis Raveneau as Oronte and the Notary in The School for Wives and Tutor in Medea. Reed Emmons and Skyler Thomas will appear in alternating performances as Boy in Medea.

Creating the farcical world of The School for Wives and the darkness of Medea are scenic designer Jo Winiarski (The Wiz); costume designer Jennifer Caprio (A Christmas Carol, The Odd Couple); lighting designer Paul Tobin (The Book Club Play, FLY); and sound designer Brian McDonald (The Book Club Play). Additional members of the creative team include vocal coach Thom Jones and fight director Jeff Colangelo.
