Performing Arts Fort Worth proudly welcomes the African Children's Choir to Bass Performance Hall on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $27.50 and are on sale NOW!

Over the past two decades, the African Children's Choir has come to symbolize the talent that lies within Africa's most impoverished areas - and the world has taken notice. The Choir performed at the White House in 2008 and at the nationally televised Live8 Long Walk to Justice Concert in London in 2005. The Choir has also been featured on several national television shows, including American Idol, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Ellen Degeneres Show. The Choir has also performed alongside such artists as Alicia Keys, Josh Groban and Faith Hill.

The African Children's Choir is a rotating-membership choir made up of young singers and dancers from several African countries. Choir members are from impoverished communities and have been orphaned or abandoned. Established 26 years ago by human right activist Ray Barnett, the choir rescues children from poverty, trains them as singers and dancers and provides them the opportunity to see and tour the world. A teacher accompanies the children while they're on tour, providing them with ongoing education.

In 1984, in the midst of Uganda's civil war, Barnett put together the first African's Children Choir as a way to help children whose families had been torn apart by the war. "Inspired by the singing of one small boy, we formed the first African Children's Choir to show the world that Africa's most vulnerable children have beauty, dignity and unlimited ability."

Proceeds from the first tour funded the building of an orphanage in Kampala, where a second choir was selected. A new choir is now formed every year, with proceeds and sponsorship support from previous tours going toward the continuing care, education and development of previous Choir members. The educations of previous choir members are completely funded by the African Children's Choir.
Since its inception, the African Children's Choir has established schools and provided educational scholarships in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa.
