The Maverick Theater extends the run of its original play, ELVIS '68. Due to the overwhelming response from the public, ELVIS '68's entire run sold out faster than any other production in the Maverick's 12-year history! To meet the demand, the Maverick Theater has extended the run by pushing back its August production of "Cyrano de Bergerac" into the 2015 season. ELVIS '68 reopens August 15th (the day before the anniversary of Elvis' passing) and close September 20th.

ELVIS '68 is a stage re-creation of the live studio concert that Presley performed in his 1968 TV Special. This broadcast has become known as the '68 Comeback Special. It is a historic moment in music history and a pivotal moment in the life and career of Elvis Presley. At the time, Elvis hadn't played a live show in seven years and his popularity had faded away. But what was meant to be a safe Christmas special all changed when a young director, Steve Binder, took over and staged an intimate jam session. Dressing Elvis in one of his most iconic outfits, the black leather suit, the director captured a side of Presley the world had never seen. ELVIS '68 is a two-man show written and directed by Brian Newell. The play features a live band performing 20 of the songs from the TV special. Of the show, The Orange County Register said "Thanks to Newell's compelling script, we grow to understand the pivotal importance of the broadcast special in Elvis' overall career" and "Gradually, Binder shares his thoughts and feelings toward Elvis, and we learn how intensely personal the live concert segments became for both men. These confessional passages are interspersed with Elvis' live songs, played with both grit and genuinely affecting humility by Casey Ryan."

ELVIS '68 opens August 15th and runs through September 20th. Performance are Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 general, $15 for students with a current I.D. Tickets may be purchased on line at www.mavericktheater.com or by calling 714-526-7070. The Maverick Theater is located at 110 E. Walnut, Fullerton, CA 92832, across from the Amtrak station in historic Downtown Fullerton.
