WINTER WEDDING BELLS RINGING AT CURTAIN CALLWhat happens when four mature Texas women take it upon themselves to stage an elaborate wedding for a total stranger all in one day? See Curtain Calls first production of 2019, Wedding Belles, for the answers!Opening in The Dressing Room Theatre, Stamford, January 10, Wedding Belles is a character-driven charming comedy revolving around an 18-year-old orphan, Ima Jean Tatum who has left the orphanage to travel to Eufalla Springs to meet her soldier boyfriend at the bus station so they can marry before he ships off to war. Laura Lee, who is all things to all people in Eufalla Springs, meets Ima Jean at the bus station and brings her home as Laura Lee's next project: planning her wedding.Excitement reigns as Laura Lee and three other garden club members make elaborate plans for Ima Jean's nuptials. The play takes place in one day in 1942, so the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding quickly begins.Written by award-winning playwrights Alan Bailey and Ronnie Claire Edwards, who is also an accomplished actress perhaps best known for her role as Corabeth Godsey on The Waltons, Wedding Belles brings a touch of homespun humor to characters who are at once believable and sympathetic.Curtain Calls production will be headed up by veteran director, Gail Yudain, whose most recent production was the sold-out smash run of Newsies last season. Production design is by Peter Barbieri, Jr., with costumes by Terry Hanson. The stage management team is lead by Martha Dombroski with Seth Barkan and Carol Foley.Im always reading new plays and especially looking for vehicles with great roles for women, said Curtain Calls executive director, Lou Ursone. Over the past several years, he has found several gems including The Dixie Swim Club, The Delval Divas and The Hallelujah Girls which have all been well-received at the award-winning theatre company. Both Ursone and Yudain were thrilled with the results of their casting session for this production. The five women selected were among the best actors they have seen, including newcomer, Eden Wright, who plays the young bride. The four garden club members scrambling to out the nuptials together include Ann Alford, Carin Freidag, Jessie Gilbert and Brent McKinley.Performances will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00PM and Sunday afternoons at 2:00PM, beginning January 10 and continuing through January 27. The Dressing Room Theatre is located at The Sterling Farms Theatre Complex, 1349 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. Seating is cabaret-style with a BYOEverything format.
