By: Gabrielle Sierra Jul. 19, 2010
Yale Repertory Theatre (James Bundy, Artistic Director; Victoria Nolan, Managing Director) announces a $950,000 gift from the Robina Foundation in support of the Yale Center for New Theatre. This gift is an addition to the Foundation's 2008 gift of $2.85 million, which established the Yale Center for New Theatre, and extends Robina's support of the Center's activities through June 2012.
The Yale Center for New Theatre is an integrated, artist-driven initiative to support the creation of new plays and musicals for the American stage through residencies, readings, workshops, and full productions. A key component of the Center's work is the support of productions of Yale-commissioned works at theatres other than Yale Rep-over the next four years, over $600,000 will be committed to this project. The Yale Center for New Theatre also facilitates playwrights' and composers' residencies as lecturers at the School of Drama. The Center is overseen by Artistic Director James Bundy and Associate Artistic Director Jennifer Kiger, director of Yale Repertory Theatre's new play program. The Robina Foundation, a Minnesota-based private grantmaking foundation, seeks to positively impact critical social issues by encouraging innovation and financially supporting transformative projects of its four institutional partners. These partners, selected by the Foundation's founder, James H. Binger, are Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, MN; The Council on Foreign Relations, New York, NY; University of Minnesota Law School, Minneapolis, MN; and Yale University, New Haven, CT.Adapted by Bill Camp and RoBert Woodruff
