One of the funniest and most performed plays ever written in the English language, The Importance of Being Earnest is a farce and romantic comedy of manners loved for its sensational characters and popular one-liners. Set in the English countryside during the late 19th century, it is both a whimsical romantic comedy and sharp-witted satire of Victorian society. In the words of Oscar Wilde, "Anyone who goes through life without knowing the Importance of Being Earnest, will have a miserable time of it indeed". With comic characters that reduce us to gales of laughter within moments of making their acquaintance, it is not difficult to see why this most English of all comedies retains its #1 position after 110 years and counting.
No preparation or monologue needed. All experience levels welcome. You can check out the script at http://www.hoboes.com/FireBlade/Fiction/Wilde/earnest/. Show Dates are May 20 & 21 and June 3, 4, 5, 9, 10 & 11, 2011.
