The Warner Theatre Welcomes Little Anthony and the Imperials, 6/8
By: Kelsey Denette
On Friday, June 8 at 8pm, Little Anthony and the Imperials will grace the Warner stage for one performance only.
Little Anthony and the Imperials were one of the finest vocal groups to emerge from the talent-rich New York scene. Moreover, they enjoyed unusual longevity for an act of that type, having hits in both the doo-wop Fifties and the soul-music Sixties. “Tears on My Pillow,” their first single, was released on End Records and became one of the biggest hits of 1958, reaching #2 on the R&B chart and #4 on the pop chart. Other hits included the uptempo “Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko Bop,” “Goin’ Out of My Head” (#6), “Hurt So Bad” (#10), “Take Me Back,” “I Miss You So,” and “I’m Falling in Love With You.” Officially reuniting in early 1992, the group had not performed together for over 17 years, yet the magic returned immediately and audiences are showing their approval with thunderous applause. This successful reunion has already brought the group to sold-out appearances at concert halls and performance venues throughout the U.S., including Madison Square Garden in New York and the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.Little Anthony and the Imperials were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999 and in recognition of their artistry and life-long contribution to rhythm and blues music were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2009.Tickets for this performance are $35.50, $45.50, $60 and can be purchased by calling the Warner box office at 860-489-7180 or online at www.warnertheatre.org.
