Ridgefield to Screen the Met's LUISA MILLER Plácido Domingo adds yet another role to his legendary Metropolitan Opera career when he stars in Luisa Miller, a rarely performed Verdi gem that is a heart-wrenching tragedy of fatherly love. Sonya Yoncheva sings the title role opposite Piotr Becza?a in the first Met performances of the opera in more than ten years. Bertrand de Billy conducts. Luisa Miller is a straightforward and accessible opera with a troubled love story plagued by corrupt politics, class conflicts and bitter family squabbles. Plácido Domingo has sung 148 different roles, more than any other tenor in the annals of music, with more than 3900 career performances. His repertoire spans the gamut from Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie (1733) to numerous world premieres of operas by contemporary composers, and now includes a remarkable traversal of leading Verdi baritone roles. Sonya Yoncheva has become an acclaimed fixture on the most important stages of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper, Berlin State Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, and the Opéra de Paris. Her unforgettable portrayals of iconic roles have received tremendous acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Of her performances in La traviata at the Staatsoper Berlin, Die Welt proclaimed: "She is the finest Violetta since Maria Callas.

The Ridgefield Playhouse offers free tickets to The Met Opera in HD series to students 18 and younger as a way for parents to introduce their children to the arts. FREE tickets are also available to students 18 and younger for Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings Live in HD screenings of The Bolshoi Ballet and National Theatre of London.
