'If You Give a Cat a Cupcake,' He May Lead You to Jorgensen Sunday, January 30, 2011, at 1:00 & 3:00 pm

A Bank of America Children's Series Event

If you give a cat a cupcake, he'll ask for some sprinkles and undoubtedly spill some on the floor. Because cleaning up the mess will make him wet and hot, you would give him - what else? - a bathing suit. What comes next is a series of surprises that only a cat could create! Follow one feline's antics on a "world-wind" tour as he travels to the beach, the gym, the mountain, the museum, the lake, and finally back home to another sprinkle-topped cupcake, as the Omaha Theater Company brings the zany Laura Numeroff favorite to Jorgensen in two showings on Sunday, Jan. 30, at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

The production plays off the wild popularity of Numeroff's "If You Give a..." book series, illustrated by Felicia Bond. Is there a home with a child in it that does not also have "If You Give a Moose a Muffin" or If You Give a Pig a Pancake"? We think not.

The touring show brings the madcap antics of the title cat and mixes in music and plenty of surprises. Children in the audience will love participating as the actors take the book's silly situations, catchy verses and exaggeration to the limit in this delight for young and old.

The Omaha Theater Company is the third largest professional children's theater in the country, with programs that reach more than 700,000 people a year in Omaha and on tour. Tours go to more than 65 venues in 25 states each year. The company has merited the Sarah Spencer Artistic Achievement Award and Nebraska Governor's Outstanding Artistic Organization Award and has collaborated with a long list of Tony, Academy, and New York Drama Desk award winners.

Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts is located at 2132 Hillside Road on the UConn campus in Storrs. Regular tickets are $11 for children, $13 for adults. For tickets and information, call the Box Office at 860.486.4226, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., or order online at jorgensen.uconn.edu. Convenient free parking is available across the street in the North Garage.
