Hartt Percussion's Concert Honoring John Cage Held At Millard Auditorium 4/18

By:

The Hartt Percussion Ensemble presents a "57-Year Retrospective Musicircus of the Percussion Music of John Cage," a seminal voice in American music and culture. The concert, free and open to the public, is about 85 minutes in length, and will take place on Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 PM in Millard Auditorium on the University of Hartford's West Hartford campus. For information, visit www.hartford.edu/hartt.

A unique audience experience, a musicircus is an overlapping, musical collage or "happening," presented in a live surround-sound environment. The audience will be encouraged to wander throughout the performance space during the musicircus in order to experience the event from different perspectives. Hartt's Percussion Ensemble will perform forty two of Cage's compositions, in an overlapping musical collage. Performers will be spread throughout the performance space and the audience will be invited to wander throughout the auditorium during the concert.

Ensemble members will perform on hundreds of percussion instruments, ranging from frame drums to conch shells, from bass drums to pine cones, from typewriters to amplified cacti. It will be an unforgettable experience for all those in attendance.

The Hartt School is the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford that offers innovative degree programs in music, dance, and theatre. With more than 400 concerts, recitals, plays, master classes, dance performances, and musical theatre productions a year, performance is central to Hartt's curriculum.
