Morning Sun, by Simon Stephens, is a poignant drama that traces the life of Charley McBride over five decades within a Greenwich Village apartment. Through the intertwined stories of three generations—Charley, her mother Claudette, and her daughter Tessa—the play delves into themes of family, identity, and memory. As they navigate love, loss, and the complexities of their relationships, their personal journeys unfold against the ever-changing backdrop of New York City. Inspired by Edward Hopper’s painting Morning Sun, which portrays a solitary woman gazing out of a window, the play echoes themes of introspection and self-reflection.
