La finta giardiniera or The Pretend Garden Girl was written by Mozart in 1775, at the age of just 18.
In a rage of wild jealousy, Count Belfiore stabs his beloved Violante. He thinks she is dead and hurries away. Violante tries in vain to find the count, whom she still loves. Together with her servant Nardo, she takes work as a garden girl called Sandrina at the house of Don Anchise the mayor. She knows that he is a friend of the count and this is where the complications begin.
A collaboration has been commenced between the Norwegian Academy of Music and Oslo National Academy of the Arts, National Opera Academy, the aim of which is to strengthen the recruitment and education of Norwegian opera singers.
The Norwegian Opera and Ballet has put its Second House at their disposal and the academies are working together on a full-scale opera production in which both soloists and orchestra will be students. The first production to come from this collaboration is Mozart's early opera La finta giardiniera.
